My inspiration came from Ephesians 4:3-6 and it reads… Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, Just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and father of ALL who is over ALL and through ALL and in ALL. (side note: it does NOT say some)
Just a quick observation, the first 3 letters in the word Unity spell out UN-I and to me that is the most important thing about Unity; you have to put self to the side a little.
Unity means there will be times you are required to get out of your comfort zone and step into the “un-known.” If we are ONE body of Christ, why do we have prominently one race Churches? I could never imagine Jesus walking around saying that race was an issue on where you are allowed to worship. I say that because when you walk in unity of Christ, you forget the “so called rules” PEOPLE put on the Church, and you go out and pursue what God wants. What He wants is to show Godly love to any shape, size, color, age or gender person you come in contact with. This means the homeless man on the corner and the richest man in the world get shown the same love and respect. In the dictionary the word unity mostly states oneness. Realizing that we can all be one while being from different backgrounds or ethnicity’s is usually the reason unity is unable to form.
You cant become one with Christ or anyone else for that matter by twiddling your thumbs in a corner. It requires a random smile to an unsuspecting passer by, an act of kindness you know you can not be repaid for, to show a Godly love to the angry, or stepping across a line of uncertainty. There are so many ways for unity to shine through you. Now the question is: How hard are you willing to work for it??
Prayer:
Lord we see your desire to have us all on the same accord. I ask that you give me courage when I see an opportunity to allow that to happen. In Jesus name. -Amen
