It is possible that one of the hardest things for a human heart to understand is compassionate Love. I mean think about it, you’ve either been hurt by love or hurt someone else with love. It seems that when we focus so much on human relational love that we can only think of love in such ways of attraction, fondness, passion, and warmth for examples. These things can set our feelings in spiral whirlwind of emotions. We can even find ourselves changing our appearances or focusing more on the other persons likes than our own. Can I ask a question? Why is it that when it comes to giving our hearts to Christ that we cringe at the thought of changing who we are? It’s not like we will find ourselves doing a total 360 degree turn as soon as we let Him in. Why does it scare us so much? It could be things you’ve heard about others lives. The old saying… “When I gave my life to Christ I…..”. Do you know that what Christ has changed in someone else; it may or may not be the same plans he has for you. Lets take it back a notch. When we are in a relationship with another (human) we take our time to learn them. Sometimes our friends give us warnings that we should stay away from them because they’ve “heard” some things. We tend to allow time to tell us on our own what our view on them is. Could you be willing to do the same thing for Christ? Can you just try to find out for yourself what His love offers? Figure out; not based on someone else’s opinion on the matter, but just on the fact that you’ve tried it. You might find that that like in (human) relationships the small things other’s find bad in the person are different in your eyes because of the love they offer. Same could be for Christ. New (human) relationships can be scary. You can also find yourself wanting to give it all up, but when the times get hard we remember that the other person chose us to love in the beginning and that love trumps the issue at hand.
Prayer:
Lord I want to invite you into my heart today, not based on what someone else has told me about you, but because I want to learn the love you have to offer. In Jesus name. -Amen
