It’s not surprising to me to think someone would “look down” on a “Christian”. In our past there have been so many man-made rules placed on the church that shouldn’t have taken place. Truthfully it’s hurt our reputation as Christ followers. I am so guilty of listening to those “rules” because I was never willing to get in the Bible and read it for myself.

One I recently heard was that women are not able to speak in church; as in preach or teach. The verse they put their focus on could easily be interpenetrated that way…. if you don’t read the whole chapter. 1 Corinthians 14:34 The rest of the chapter if you read, states that they are speaking about worship. Women- we know how we are, we like to TALK. Apparently they did way back then as well. Paul was basically saying to the women of the church, don’t sit on that pew talking and being a distraction to those around you! In doing so you are saying that you’re more important than God because you want all eyes/ears on you. A few chapters back Paul was excited to announce that there is a group of women proclaiming the Gospel, and giving them credit for their hard work. So would it be smart for Paul to say women can not preach or teach? It would be contradictory.
It’s important for us to get into the Bible and read for ourselves. It’s how we learn who God is. If Jesus was walking the earth today, and you were able to be friends, would you simply believe everything someone else said about Him? Would you forget what you know to be true to satisfy their projections?
Prayer:
It is some kind of easy to listen to what others say about you Jesus. I want to find out for myself who you are though. Help me to learn your love. Show me your true friendship. In Jesus name. -Amen
