Recently met a guy who served 4 years in the Military, he went to Iraq and served in those 4 years. When this guy approached me, he seemed like a pretty happy guy, his smile was huge. As we talked I learned he was originally from an area that he grew up on a farm and was now in a major city going to College. We talked more, and I told him I had 5 kids total (insert big WOW as a response). He then told me he didn’t have kids and for that matter not even a girl friend. Coming from a farm to big city everything was different, including the people. I tried to give him some encouragement, which he gladly took in.
It’s what happened next that I felt the need to share.
He said to me boldly, I know the man “upstairs” has a plan for me. Then he asks, do you believe in God? I was honestly in shock that our random conversation lead to that question so quickly, but of course I responded with yes, I am a Christian. Almost immediately he started changing his out-look. He began saying he believes in God, but he just wasn’t where he needs to be to say he’s a Christian. He said he understood that God had a plan for him, but he could NOT step foot in a church.
Guys….. I was heartbroken. I did what I could to reassure him that God loves him right now, no matter the mess he thinks he is in.
Remember me saying he served in Iraq? He told me little bits of stories; things he witnessed and then said, “I’ve seen too much, and been saved too many times for Him not to have a plan.” “Right?”
He simply needed someone to encourage him. To show the LOVE Christ has to offer. I’m so thankful our paths crossed, he made a bigger impact on me than I ever could for him. It’s important to remember that instead of condemning someone out of their “sin” it’s more important to love them through it.
Prayer:
God please send more people to us that are hurting so we can show them the true love you offer. In Jesus name. -Amen
