“Why do we thank God when you made the food?”

Sitting at the table talking to the Littles while we are eating, I begin to explain something I feel we as adults need reminding.

After we prayed over our food I had a little who was curious why we thank God for our food when I am the one who made it? My first response was “God is our provider sweetie.” Even more curious all of them wanted to know what that meant.

I broke it down easily for them and ended with, “it’s more important to thank God for what we have, rather than asking him for what we want.” Again, that needed to be broken down in littles terms.

After explaining what all this meant (to the best of my ability), every one of them had a huge smile on their face as they said, “thank you God!” I feel it’s important to show our children why we do what we do, and explain who our creator is. I know they will have doubts, I know its all still confusing, but if they can understand the love God has for them, I know without fail they will love Him the same!

Try to remember, being thankful isn’t something we just say, it’s actually more of something we do.

Prayer:

We are so thankful for everything you provide, we forget often how many people aren’t sure where their next meal is coming from. God we ask you to send compassion to someone, send strength to another, send knowledge to another, and send your unexplainable peace to all.  Send us reminders on how to stay humble. In Jesus name. -amen.
