I am constantly learning things from our children. I find that while teaching them how to handle life’s uncertainties, I also find healing myself. If I can take their scenerio and find something similar in my life to apply it to; I will, and I do… often.
Our morning got off to a rocky start. We woke up late, ate late, and we were honestly all sluggish. I homeschool so thank goodness our schedule has room for days like this. As I was teaching the kids I noticed one of them didn’t want to get involved or stay focused on tasks. Knowing how our morning started I almost dreaded doing schoolwork myself, so I expected this. So, as the “leader” of attitudes I had a choice to make. Should I wallow in sorrow or suck it up butter cup? I chose to suck it up butter cup and be the example they needed in order to understand that changing your own atmosphere IS actually possible. After all, self control is fruit of the spirit (Galations 5:22-23). Once I got myself in check I was able to better guide them.
The one that was having the biggest issue focusing didn’t find it important to learn the letter C. Because I had already changed my attitude, I was able to quickly come up with a reason as to why this letter was particularly important for him. See, he desires to be a construction worker when he gets older (for now). I simply asked him, how can you be something you can’t even spell? After sounding out the word I asked him what did it start with and instantly he put the two together and a new spark began. I told him, it is important to apply yourself in things you don’t think are important, so that you can eventually become what you dream to be!
As I was saying all of this, I knew I also needed to hear that for myself. If my dream isn’t fulfilled yet, I need to continue doing the things that don’t seem as important as they really are. This brought me back to Luke 16:10, He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.
The moral of this story is to encourage you in whatever stage of life you are in right now. Wherever you are, whatever you’re trying to accomplish continue to keep pushing for your goal. If it lines up with Gods word and you’re faithful in the little, He will know He can trust you with the big.
PRAYER:
God, I thank you for small lessons in life. I am thankful for new opportunities for every reader, I’m thankful for encouragement and most of all for your love guiding us daily. Lord, I ask that whoever is reading this is able to feel your presence and know that no matter what, you are with them and you love them. I ask for guidance in the small tasks as well as the big ones for everyone. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
