“Go tell that girl, she has worth.”
“Go tell that guy who poured his heart out during worship that his works are not unseen.”
“Do life with this one because the potential they don’t know they have is going to go unseen unless you do.”
In the movie Hortan hears a Whoo, Hortan (a huge elephant) finds a spec with a world of Whoo’s living on it. Hortan is the only one that can hear the Mayor of Who-ville. Hortan’s friends couldn’t understand why this spec was so important to him and tried to tell Hortan not to be so serious about the spec, that he could believe in it but there wasn’t a need for him to save the “people” on the spec. Hortan isn’t swayed by what his friends thought, and he continued to try and save the spec which got him caught up in trouble with his friends who couldn’t see what he could see and hear what he could hear. Eventually the Whoo’s got loud enough for Hortans friends to actually hear them and then the spec was saved.
I wonder if you can see what I can see from the outline of this film? If you are a Christ follower, chances are that some people around you couldn’t understand why you thought it was important to do something that you’ve done in your Christ walk. Maybe you had to remove yourself from toxic environments, maybe you had to have faith in something they couldn’t see, maybe you began changing your ways due to a renewing of your mind and people around you couldn’t understand how that was possible. Maybe these same people tried to discourage you from continuing on your journey with Christ saying things like, sure you can believe in a god, but do you really have to change what you watch on tv? or sure believe in your god, but you don’t have to clean your filthy talk. The list could go on, but I feel like you get the jest of it. What if we could be more like Hortan? What if we could stand up for what we know and believe in against all who try to discourage your faith walk? In doing this though, we have to also think about how Hortan handled people not understanding…. Hortan didn’t just tell the people around him that they were wrong and shunned them, instead, Hortan listened to them and then explained in a loving way that he believed there were people on the spec and continued on his journey. Even when Hortan was under attack for believing in his spec, he held his composure. What if we had faith enough to hold our composure during attacks and allowed the Holy Spirit to move for us? What if we were capable of allowing more people to see what Christ can do for them if we shut our negativity off and allowed the Holy Spirit to guide us in our ways? I imagine a change in the world that would be un-explainable to the natural eye. Since doing this in my own life, I’ve noticed that when I remove my own emotions from the overall picture, I am able to hear what God needs me to do better. The quotations in the beginning of this blog are things the Holy Spirit has guided me to do for others. I know many of you are on the same level of being lead but I also know there are many who haven’t gotten to this level yet. I would like to encourage you to give it a try, see if your crazy faith in every situation can be a game changer! You never know what your “small” act of obedience can actually grow to be.
PRAYER:
God, I just want to thank you for your presence, thank you for your unfailing love. I ask that anyone reading this gets the encouragement needed to try your love and give faith in you a chance to change atmospheres and situations with little involvement on our parts. God I ask that they are encouraged to be lead by the Holy Spirit in every day life. If you ask them to go, do, say, or be for someone; I ask that they are strengthened by your power and allow them to know the important role they play in the movement of the body of Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.
