I want to remember.

Have you ever noticed that when something is free, the initial excitement is “out of this world”, but when the newness wears off, the free item gets neglected and you loose interest?

I can relate this to school. On many occasions, I’ve seen friends with scholarships loose interest in school, while others paying (way too much) for their education are dedicated and devoted from day one – graduation.

It would be an injustice if I didn’t also mention this happening in our daily walk with Christ. When we surrender to God, we tend to live a life free and forgiven. As time passes, complacencies come into the picture. I’ve often wondered how this happens… and my only thoughts are… WE didn’t pay the price for our sins. This happened in the Old Testament as well, when sacrifices were offered to God, the sacrifice paid the cost. It worked for a period of time, then another sacrifice was needed ( I would say as a reminder).

What would happen if everyone who confesses the name of Jesus remembered daily the price that was paid for our forgiveness? Would it become easier to extend that same grace and mercy to those around us? Would it become easier to obey the whispers of the Holy Spirit in our lives? Would it set off a unity within the entire body of Christ? Perhaps this is why Jesus asked us to have communion and “remember”. His body mingled and blood shed for us so that our father’s love would be forever known by anyone at anytime.

I encourage you, remember. Daily. The sacrifice not only came from Jesus, but also the Father. God (Our Heavenly Father) so loved the world (you and I) that he gave his only son (John 3:16).
