What kind of impact are you making?
While traveling, we needed to switch towns, so we checked out of our hotel. Now for us to check out is a task in itself because it’s us and four children plus homeschool gear and cots plus all of our daily needs. We usually have a huge cooler as well. It usually looks like the clampets are traveling with us. The kids and I were waiting on hubby to bring the cars around to the front be loaded. I noticed a lady and her husband are having a conversation as they are walking past us, she stops to tell me she understands what we are going through because she had 6 kids all doorstep. She explained her kids are much older now and they are actually visiting a few of them now. I learned that she is soon too be 80 and that she was thankful to God that she still looks young! Our conversation dissipated as hubby came with the car and I began getting the kids buckled in while I waited on Him to bring his truck. After getting the kids in I walked over to help hubby, who had begun packing the bags away. When we were half way done the lady I was talking with earlier asked me a question, and this was the moment I was able to impact her. She asked, why don’t you wait and just let him do that? She asked because she didn’t understand, I could have been rude or laughed it off even, but I chose to explain, I quickly said, because we are a team, we help each other! She shrugged and said a short muuhh.
While all of this was going on, her husband was packing their things away as she was sitting on the bench. I turned to help hubby again and looked for the lady and she was gone. Looked at the truck so I could wave bye, except she wasn’t leaving, she was now helping her husband! I was shocked and giddy that she used what I said almost immediately.
After they we were all done packing we said a few more words to each other and as we were saying goodbye I gave her a hug and she kissed my cheek. The kiss made me think about the end of Romans when Paul said to greet the diverce group of people he listed with a holy kiss. While I may have impacted her, she certainly had a much bigger impact on me!
Prayer:
God, I am so thankful that you place people in our paths daily who we can encourage and that encourage us. I just ask you to remind us to slow down and have conversations with people. Give us the words to speakand allow your presence to shine through is daily. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
